Last week I mentioned the challenges I run into to maintain a writing habit when I am on the move. I face the same challenges, if not more, considering my hobbies. It is kind of hard to maintain my garden being away half the time or to start on a carpentry project when I know I potentially have to drop my tools for a last minute flight.
As much as I love writing, I do not consider it a hobby like I do carpentry or gardening. There is a certain meditative quality to the activities I call hobbies that writing , generally, lacks. With my hobbies I sit down and I zone out immediately forgetting about the world around me. With writing it takes a while before I zone out, if I even do.
But enough small talk. For a little while already I was in search of a portable hobby. Not too long after I set my intentions I came across the world of adult coloring books. A-ma-zing. If coloring is for kids then call me a kid.
If you are one of those people who wants more rest and peace, but say you can’t meditate – because your mind is to restless? – then give it a shot at coloring. Even science says it is good for you. Well, if science says so…
